The MTV Video Music Awards are unlike any other awards show. It's not really a place for formal gowns, and the goal isn't really to get on a best dressed list. It's more about making a statement and looking "cool," which some celebrities achieved more successfully than others. There's also a tendency to want to look naked — though, while present, that aesthetic wasn't quite as prevalent as it's been in previous years.
In fact, it was her ability to capture that naked look without looking vulgar that made Kim Kardashian a unanimous top pick for best dressed among the Fashionista team. From her "wet" hair to her flawless, fresh makeup to that sheer, off-one-shoulder black dress that showed off her insane body, it was her best look in recent memory and perfect for this event. (She confirmed on Twitter that it's vintage John Galliano.)
